Another take on Autism

August 10, 2010

Vitamin D CouncilIn a previous post, I referenced a great interview by Sean Croxton of Underground Wellness. While I learned a lot from the podcast and think the work Julie Matthews is doing is vital, I was surprised there was no mention of my favorite topic – Vitamin D – and it’s correlation with the incidence of Autism and the severity of its effects.

To round out this topic, from my perspective, it would be worthwhile to consider the work of the Vitamin D council who have a section of their web site specific to issues related to the Autism spectrum. Their most recent update on the connection between Autism and Vitamin D cites three Swedish papers that provide further evidence of the connection. There’s also an audio interview (links directly to the .mp3 file) from the site.

Also, search for “Vitamin D” and “autism” together in your favorite search engine and you’ll find many more references to this correlation.

… and many more …

When I lack vitamin D I use a specially designed light therapy box. It reproduces natural like similar to that of the sun. It’s interesting to see a correlation to autism. They are trying to link the MMR (Measles mumps rubella) vaccination to autism as well.

The lights I mentioned can be found in the resources section of my holistic wellness website.

      Thanks for the tip, Mitch.

Always better to let your body synthesize the Vitmain D it needs as opposed to taking it in a supplement, I say.

One could imagine ‘light therapy booths’ in shopping areas, workplaces and such in the future. Couple of bucks and get your 15 min of UVB exposure for the day.

When I initially left a comment I appear to have clicked on the -Notify
me when new comments are added- checkbox and from now on every
time a comment is added I get 4 emails with the exact same
comment. Is there an easy method you can remove me from that service?
    Thank you!
